Models roll back the years

The Models rolled back the years at the old Kinselas on Taylor Square last night. .

Although Roger Grierson pointed out that this version of the band was not one that ever trod the boards back in the day (Mark Ferrie having left before Barton Price joined), in many ways for me this is the strongest ever line up. When they opened with Two Cabs to the Toucan—and NAILED it—you got the feeling it was going to be a special night, and so it proved. They powered through the back catalog with poise, panache and a sense of careening confidence that had the moderate but deeply appreciative crowd dancing, swaying, toe tapping and grinning from ear to ear. Among the many many highlights, Local and or General, Happy Birthday IBM, Uncontrollable Boy, Unhappy (with Mark Ferrie singing), Pate Pedestrian, a very sad Barbados (in memory of James Freud), Big on Love, I Hear Motion and an encore of Atlantic Romantic. If only you could get a cab after midnight in Sydney I might even consider getting out more!
